Principle
- Yeast extract peptone dextrose broth is used for the cultivation of a wide variety of microorganisms and is routinely used for the cultivation of yeast.
- The media is composed of a peptic digest of animal tissue, yeast extract, and dextrose.
- Peptic digestion of animal tissue provides nitrogen, amino acids, and trace nutrients. Yeast extract is the source of carbon, nitrogen, vitamins, and growth factors.
- Dextrose is a source of energy and carbohydrate. The acidic pH of the medium favors the growth of yeast and molds.
