Principle
- Yeast extract agar is described by Windle Taylor (1958), as it highly nutritious medium composed of peptone, yeast extract, and agar. Peptone provides nitrogen, amino acids, and other trace nutrients.
- Yeast extract source of nitrogenous compounds, vitamin B complex, and other growth nutrients. Agar is the solidifying agent.
- The media is used for the enumeration of microorganisms in water by generally pour plate technique is used and rarely the spread plate technique.
