Principle
- Violet red bile broth is composed of peptic digestion of animal tissue, yeast extract, bile salts, lactose, sodium chloride, neutral red, and crystal violet. Peptone and yeast extract provide carbon, nitrogen sources, and essential growth factors required for the growth of microorganisms.
- Bile salts and crystal violet inhibit gram-positive bacteria. Lactose is fermentable sugar. Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic equilibrium. Further biochemical tests are necessary for positive identification.
