Tryptone Bile Agar

 Principle

• Tryptone provides nitrogen and amino acids required for the growth of microorganisms.
• Bile Salts are a selective agent, added to suppress coliform bacteria and inhibit gram-positive organisms except for Escherichia coli.
• Certain organisms break down the tryptophan into indole. The indole produced can be detected by either Kovacs or Ehrlichs reagent.

 Use: Recommended for rapid detection and enumeration of Escherichia coli in food.
