Principle
- Modified tryptone soya broth is composed of tryptone, soy peptone, dextrose, sodium chloride, dipotassium phosphate, and bile salts. Tryptone and soy peptone provide nitrogen and other essential nutrients.
- Dextrose is a carbon source and serves as an energy source for optimum growth. Sodium chloride maintains osmotic balance, while di-potassium phosphate is a buffering agent. Bile salts inhibit the gram-positive bacteria. The novobiocin can be added to increase the selectivity for Escherichia coli associated with food-borne illness, it inhibits associated microorganisms.
