Principle
- Soybean casein digest agar with lecithin and polysorbate 80 is used to determine the efficiency of sanitization of containers, equipment surfaces, and water-miscible cosmetics in industries.
- This medium is a modification of soybean casein digest agar consisting of pancreatic digest of casein, papain digest of soybean, sodium chloride, polysorbate 80, lecithin, and agar.
- The pancreatic digest of casein, and papain digest of soybean provides ample amount of carbon and nitrogen source and trace. Lecithin and polysorbate 80 are reported to inactivate residual disinfectants from samples.
- Where lecithin neutralizes quaternary ammonium compounds and polysorbate 80 neutralizes phenolic disinfectants, hexachlorophene, formalin, and others used in sanitization. Sodium chloride maintains the osmotic balance and agar is used as solidifying agent.
