Principle
- The composition and performance criteria of this medium are as per the specifications laid down in ISO 1999 Draft ISO/DIS 16654. It can also be isolated from clinical samples.
- Modified soybean bile broth base medium is composed of casein peptone, soya peptone, dextrose, bile salts, Dipotassium phosphate, and sodium chloride. Casein and soya peptone provide ample amount of carbon, nitrogen, essential and non-essential amino acids, along with trace minerals.
- The Bile salts in it inhibit the gram-positive microbes. Dextrose is a carbohydrate source. Phosphate acts as a buffering agent and sodium chloride maintain osmatic equilibrium.
- Bile broth base is used as selective microbial media for the enumeration and detection of the enterococcus family members.
