Principle
- Malt extract agar base is a simple medium composed of malt extract, peptone, dextrose, and agar used for isolation, detection, and cultivation of yeast. Malt extract provides the carbon, protein, and nutrient sources required, in addition to that it provides an acidic environment favorable for the growth of yeasts.
- The acidified medium inhibits the growth of bacteria and allows good recovery of yeasts and molds. Peptone provide an excess supply of nitrogen and amino acids. Dextrose is a fermentable carbohydrate.
