Overview
SHIVD, also known as ‘Infection with Decapod iridescent virus 1 (DIV1)’, is a viral disease that is mortal to shrimps. When infected, it changes the color of shrimps. Their heads turn white, while their bodies turn red. Also, their outer shell gets weakened, which causes them to sink and ultimately leads to death. The mortality rate of SHIVD is about 80%, severely reducing shrimp production and causing massive economic damage to shrimp farmers. Hence, it is important to monitor and diagnose the disease to prevent the spread of SHIVD infection.
